the story behind friends community social club.

Friends Community Social Club was founded in 2021 by Joanie Steil, a mother whose daughter was born with developmental disabilities. Joanie Steil was a founding member of Hand-in-Hand(est. in 2000), becoming one of the biggest advocates for those with disabilities. After her daughter's passing, Joanie continues her vision of providing experiences for those in our community, including individuals with disabilities. With a group of like-minded advocates, Joanie has developed the Friends Community Social Club. Remaining faithful to her vision of offering more to the community, the Friends Community Social Club  was designed to provide a positive place for individuals to go to experience more. Members are able to cook, work on computer skills, volunteer, make new friends, explore community events, and socialize. Our members can gain greater independence, confidence, and community support through social outings, friendships, and building life skills.

the mission.

Friends Community Social Club is a membership group intended to provide all individuals in our community with positive social activities and events, especially those with disabilities who may have limited resources or want to experience new things. With the members' input, we plan and prepare community activities to help improve our member's social lives, learn new skills, or improve current skills, allowing for increased independence. Friends Community Social Club's location is equipped with a full kitchen, computer area, laundry facilities, and game area. The Club has open community hours and scheduled monthly events at our location and community that members can sign up to attend.
